Movie project
Our Own Movies - Dialogue about the Rights and Dreams of Children
FSAA is part of a cooperation project "Our Own Movies - Dialogue About the Rights and Dreams of Children". The Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Finland has granted 6700 euros for the project. Partners in the project are Elemenary School of Mikkola in Vantaa, Voisalmi-Tyysterniemi school at Lappeenranta, Board of Education and Finnish Refugee Council. In South Africa we are partnering with the school of Arethabeng in Soshanguve, near Pretoria.
The purpose of the project is to dialogue between North and South, the reality of children, their dreams and rights, in a developed and developing country, with the means arts. As a result of the project a short film will be produced by the children in the participating schools. The films are inspired by the UN Declaration on the Rights of the Child. The films are written, shooted, acted and edited by the children themselves under the guidance of a professional film maker. The language of the films are Finnish, Sotho and English. The film will be launched in 4th of September 2008 and it will be distributed widely.
The schools of Mikkola and Arethabeng have been friendship schools since 2004. They published a book together "Tunne kieleni - Tseba leleme la ka - Know my language" in 2007 which consists of stories told by the school children.
